BIRD CAGE TIPS

A comfortable, cozy, clean cage is the best thing you can do for your bird.  The perfect home not only helps keep your bird happy and healthy, it also is easy for you to maintain and keep clean.  The bedding used in the cage bottom must provide absorbency and also ease of cleaning.  Aspen, corncob, walnut bedding, and cage litters are all great bedding based on the type of bird you have. When selecting a bird cage litter to use remember that your bird’s droppings can be an indicator of illness and health problems and should be examined daily when you change the bird cage litter.  By choosing a bird cage litter that doesn’t ‘hide’ the bird’s droppings you can examine the consistency, color and volume to determine if your bird’s health is okay.  Damp, highly soiled bedding poses a health risk to your bird so the bedding material must be cleaned at least weekly, but more often is better.
