Heartworm is a serious disease that can potentially be fatal. Heartworm is transmitted by mosquitoes. Dogs with infection may exhibit decreased appetite, weight loss, coughing and listlessness. Heartworm treatment can be difficult and expensive. We recommend prevention of an infection with monthly dosing of a chewable medication called Heartgard Plus.
All puppies at Animart are started on Heartgard Plus at 8 weeks of age and continued monthly. We recommend starting to test for Heartworm disease at 6-8 months of age and yearly thereafter. Heartworm preventative is a prescription medication and must have a negative Heartworm test on file prior to having the prescription filled.
