CAN'T TAKE YOUR FISH ON VACATION?

Depending on your setup and length of vacation, there are a number of feeding options and things you can do ahead of time which will make tending your aquarium while you are away much easier.
FEEDING OPTIONS
Vacation Food
Vacation feeders that harm your water quality are a thing of the past. New gel blocks allow your fish to feed when they are hungry without the risk of overfeeding or a negative impact on the water quality.
Automatic Feeders
Battery-driven feeders, reliably deliver pre-calibrated food even through power failures.
Fish Sitter
Pre-measured feedings can be prepared in multi-day pill dispensers to prevent over-feeding by well-intentioned sitters.
Don’t Feed Them
Healthy adult fish can safely be left without food for a week or two.
BEFORE YOU LEAVE
Perform routine maintenance:
- Partial water change (20%)
- Replace filter inserts
- Check your filter, heater, tubing and connections
- If using automatic feeders, test if working
- Setup lighting on a timer
- Train your sitter (if using one). Give a to-do list and your contact info while traveling. Advise them to not make up a feeding if a day is skipped. Stock up on supplies your helper may need.
- Examine your fish and treat if needed
- Top off with water right before you leave
GO AWAY. RELAX. And have a GREAT TIME!
